Jeudi 18 Juillet 2013

Bien dormi.

Slept well. We are preparing quietly and leave at 8.45 am. The forecast is westerly wind, F 4-5, turning north tomorrow. It's good for us.
Last night one man on a sailboat came late, anchored in the middle of the harbor and is leaving this morning, just before us. He goes south and we go westward.
It's gray, a little hazy. A good wind is blowing, F4-5, and the waves are 1.5-2 meters high. They come from three quarterback and that's fine. It is going well, first sailing and motor and then sail (the jib) only. We have good speed with just the jib.
At a time when Jens is resting, the wind increase to force 6. But it's fine. The wind is quite irregular in strength, increases, decreases. Shortly after, it drops again. Jens then wants to hoist the new sail, the "genaker" an hybrid genoa-spinnaker. This requires going on the deck and I do not want him to do that, the boat is rolling too much. Even with the harness, it would be too dangerous. And in fact, it was good not to raise it: the wind increases again and is too strong for the light sail. Jens is going to the front quickly to put the jib boom.
We use the stove for the first time at sea. We warm a tin of soup and make tea. The stove is gimbale and has pots fastening to prevent the pots to fall. Jens is cooking and I wash up afterward, without feeling seasick. A grande première!
We see nobody, only the sea, vast and empty. We see gannets 99 nautical miles offshore (150 km). I feel good, the pills are working or I'm getting used to sailing.
All is well. We change well, we sleep well and a night on the sea is always special.
